Setting up Microsoft Authenticator as a guest at UCLL



 

 Guests who log in using their own email address or an address from another institution, are required to complete an additional verification step during login. This step is carried out via the **Microsoft Authenticator** app on your smartphone. In this guide, we explain step by step how to set it up.

### What do you need?

- Your smartphone (iOS or Android).
- A device (laptop or PC) on which you can complete the UCLL login.
- A few minutes of your time.

### Is this guide for you?

**Yes, follow the steps below if:**

- you have been invited by a UCLL staff member to join a Team, SharePoint or OneDrive at UCLL;
- you are using your own email address to sign in (e.g. a Gmail, Hotmail or work email address);
- when signing in, you see a screen displaying the message "More information required".

**No, this guide is not for you if:**

- you have a UCLL account (e.g. a c-account as a Kasog student, continuing education participant, or external staff member with a UCLL login). You will receive a separate email from UCLL with instructions for your situation.
- you are a UCLL student or UCLL staff member. Nothing will change for you; you will continue to log in as you do today.

### Step 1 — Open the invitation

You have received an email inviting you to join a Team or shared workspace at UCLL. Open the email and click on ‘**Open Microsoft Teams**’ (or the equivalent button).

### Step 2 — Give your consent (only when registering for the first time)

When you log in for the first time, a screen will appear asking for your permission for UCLL to use your profile details. Click ‘**Accept**’ to continue.

### Step 3 — Additional information required

After logging in, a screen will appear displaying the message "**More information required**". This is the starting point for setting up MFA. Click **Next**.

The bottom line on this screen ("*Please use your <username>@ucll.be to sign in*") is intended for UCLL staff and students. As a guest, you can ignore this text — simply use your own email address.

### Step 4 — Install Microsoft Authenticator

Install the **Microsoft Authenticator** app on your smartphone via the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android). Then click **Next**.

Open the app on your phone. If prompted, allow notifications. Tap + or **Add account**, then select Work or school account.

On your computer, click **Next**.

### Step 6 — Scan the QR code

A QR code will appear on your computer. **Scan it using the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone** — the app will automatically open the camera for this purpose.

Once the app confirms that the connection has been established, click **Next** on your computer.

### Step 7 — Test: enter a number

You will see a two-digit number (for example, 66) appear on your computer. At the same time, your phone will send you a notification. Open the notification and enter the number. Tap **Approve**.

### Step 8 — Done

If the test is successful, you will see a confirmation screen saying: "**Authenticator Added**". You're all set. Click **Done**.

From now on, every time you log in, you will receive a notification on your phone or be asked to enter a code.
