Multifactor authentication allows you to **better protect your UCLL account**. By shielding your account with an extra factor, you are safer than with a password alone. We chose the same solution as KU Leuven and therefore use the **KU Leuven authenticator**. With the KU Leuven authenticator, we add a second check on access to your devices and data. We combine the first factor ("something you know" like your password) with a second factor ("something you have or identify"), which is what we call multifactor authentication. Logging in with the KU Leuven authenticator is more secure than just using a username and password. KU Leuven authenticator offers security comparable to that of mobile payment and banking apps. It is also possible to log on without using a password, similar to [itsme](https://www.itsme.be/).
